Alice Springs Aeromodellers (ASA) are again going to hold a model aircraft event at the Alice Springs Masters Games (ASMG).
ASA held the first ever model aircraft event at a master’s games in Australia (and possibly the world) in 2018, unfortunately due to COVID the event has not occurred since. But now that the world is back to normal??? the ASMG are back on.
The ASMG will occur from the 12th to the 19th of October 2024 and further information about this and other events can be found on the ASMG web site – Alice Springs Masters Games
ASA will be holding 3 types of events at its Pedlar Flying Field.
- AEROBATICS
This event will be based on the Model Aeronautical Association of Australia (MAAA) gold wings requirements. Any model can be entered that meets the MAAA gold wings rules. If you don’t have your gold wings and you successfully fly the gold wings manoeuvres in a single flight you will be awarded with your gold wings. The judges will be MAAA instructors.
- F5J GLIDING
F5J Gliding will be run in accordance with MAAA rules for this event.
- OLD TIMERS
There will be 4 different events for Old Timers and all events are in accordance with MAAA rules and the rules indicated;
- GORDON BURFORD EVENT: This event is normally for Burford 2.5cc diesel engines but will be open to any brand of 2.5cc diesel engine that is a naturally aspirated front induction engine. The engine must have a fuel shut off. If at the end of this event if there is a tied result the Burford engine will be the winner.
- Electric Texaco: 1300mah 3s lipo battery. Models greater than 480 squ inch wings. All flights will be 30 minutes maximum and battery voltage at the end of the flight will determine the winner.
- 1/2A Electric: 460mah 2s lipo battery. Models up to 460 squ inch wings. All flights will be 30 minutes maximum and battery voltage at the end of the flight will determine the winner.
- O. T. Texaco: As per MAAA rules. If you run a diesel engine you supply your own fuel. If you run a glow engine, then 10% nitro fuel will be provided.
This event is open to any MAAA member who is 35 years of age or older.
There are several age categories, consequently no one winner for any event.
The ASA ASMG is a light-hearted event, so if you enter a model (particularly in Old Timers) that does not strictly meet the rules we will still let you take part.
Events will be held at times when the weather is suitable e.g. Old Timer events will probably occur early in the morning or in the evenings when the wind is light.
Other fun events will be held e.g. night flying with a barbecue dinner. So, bring other models with you if you can.
ASA Pedlar Flying Field is approximately 6.5 kilometres due east from the centre of Alice Springs. Camping at the field is available if you are self-contained. There is no mains power available and only rainwater tanks. We do have barbeque facilities, toilets, hot showers and a black water dump point. If you wish to camp at the field, please let us know.
There will be catering at the field during the event. Breakfast and lunch will be available at a small cost. There will also be a medal presentation dinner at the end of the event. Further information will be posted in the future about this.
If you have any further questions about the event or the Master Game’s, please contact the ASA secretary at alicespringsaeromodellers@gmail.com
